There was an earthquake in Acapulco city of Mexico on 8 September 2021. A rare phenomenon of earthquake light in Mexico is seen by many people Acapulco is a city in Guerrero state near to sea beach as you can see in Google map Photo.

Why Earthquake regularly occur on coastal area of North America?
There was an earthquake of 7 magnitude, 15km from Acapulco. Earthquake is not a strange phenomenon there because major and minor plates are making convergent, divergent and transform boundaries near this area.
As we can see by the image the Pacific Plate and North American Plate making a transform boundary. Cocos Plate is converging towards North American Plate and Caribbean plate and diverging from Nazca Plate. Because of this Tectonic disturbance earthquakes occur in coastal areas of North America.

This event is not happening the first time. This event reports continuously since the 1975 Kalapana earthquake, in 2003 Colima earthquake in Mexico, in 2008 Shichuan Earthquake and many more. Let’s understand the phenomena of earthquake light.
What is Earthquake Light?
Earthquake light is a luminous aerial phenomenon that reportedly appears in the sky reported in association with earthquake, tectonic stress or seismic activity.
Types of Earthquake Light
This may be classified into two groups based on the appearance of light timing.
1) Presesmic earthquake light
Light occurs before the earthquake ( timing can vary from few seconds to few weeks), generally occur near the epicentre.
2) Cosesmic earthquake light
Light occurs along with the earthquake. generally occur a significant distance from the epicentre. But can occur near the epicentre also.
Scientists hypothesis behind the Earthquake light
Hypothesis 1
State that:- Due to the tectonic movements of the plate some quartz-rich rock generate the piezoelectric effect(the ability to generate an electric charge when any mechanical stress is apply to the material.
This phenomenon can be seen when we rub two quartz containing rocks.
Hypothesis 2
During the earthquake, high stress is generated. In some rocks, high stress may break the proxy bond. by that negative charge oxygen ions form in the crust.
These ions travel through the cracks of rock into the atmosphere and create ionise pockets of air. On de-excitation ionise pockets emits light.
Lab experiments also validate that in high stress some rocks do ionise the oxygen in them.

Why earthquake happened on earth??
Earthquake are caused when underground rock suddenly breaks and there is rapid motion along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the sesmic waves that cause earhtquake.
